How well it works, measured

Most writing tools tell you they are accurate. Here is the test that actually counts, because the documents were written after the rules were finished and the app had never seen them:

The middle column is the one to look at. A checker that underlines everything will always find your mistakes; the difficult part is staying quiet about writing that is already correct.

These are our own test documents, measured with our own scorer. We publish the numbers so they can be argued with.

What it checks

  • Grammar, agreement, tense and punctuation
  • Spelling, with a personal dictionary for names and jargon
  • Your own style guide — words your team prefers, and words it forbids
  • Tone, and rewriting a passage in a different one
  • Readability, so you can see whether a paragraph is heavier than it needs to be
  • Font and formatting consistency across a document

All of it is in the free version. There is no reduced free tier that checks your grammar less well.

Why it stays on your computer

The grammar engine, the correction model and the dictionaries are all installed on your machine. When you check a document, nothing is sent anywhere — so contracts, medical notes, unpublished work and anything else you would rather not upload can simply be checked.

This is also why the download is large and the first check takes a few seconds to warm up. The whole engine is on your side of the wire. The privacy policy sets out the few places any information is involved at all.

Free, and how it is paid for

Pikivie Proof is free, and adverts pay for it. There are two in the panel on the right of the window. They never see your documents, they can never stop you working, and if the machine is offline the slot is simply empty.

If you would rather not see them, you can pay once to turn them off. That is the only difference. The checking is identical either way.
